Unemployment Assistance

DUA oversees the unemployment insurance (UI) program, which provides temporary income assistance to eligible workers in Massachusetts. DUA also determines and collects employer contributions to the UI program.

Rental & Housing Assistance

There are different types of rental assistance in Massachusetts. The 3 largest programs are the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program (HCVP), the Massachusetts Rental Voucher Program (MRVP), and the Alternative Housing Voucher Program (AHVP).

Fuel & Utility Assistance

Massachusetts' Fuel Assistance Program, also called the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) provides eligible households with help in paying a portion of winter heating bills.

The Department of Housing and Community Development handles applications for heating and energy assistance. You can apply in person or by phone for LIHEAP.
